For Trump’s swearing-in, the quad foreign ministers are anticipated to be in Washington, DC: MEA

Quad foreign ministers from India, Japan, Australia, and the United States are expected to meet in Washington, D.C., shortly after the swearing-in of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, 2025. This meeting is anticipated to take place on January 21, 2025, and will be significant as it marks the first major multilateral engagement of the new Trump administration.

Australian Minister Penny Wong with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

In light of growing concerns with China in the Indo-Pacific area, the talks are probably going to center on strengthening cooperation among the Quad countries. In the near future, the ministers might also consider holding a leaders’ summit.

Building on earlier interactions throughout Trump’s first term, this summit demonstrates the administration’s dedication to deepening connections with friends in the Indo-Pacific.

Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Quad Leaders’ Summit in the US. Wilmington, Delaware, the hometown of President Joe Biden, hosted the meeting.

PM Modi committed to further strengthen collaboration and work toward a safe and secure Indo-Pacific with President Biden, Australian PM Anthony Albanese, and then Japanese PM Fumio Kishida.

S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, will represent India at the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States. The Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee has invited him to attend the ceremony.

Along with several other dignitaries who are in the US for the visit, Jaishankar will also meet with representatives of the next administration.

Since its creation, the Quad framework has undergone substantial development, broadening its focus beyond climate change to encompass important concerns including regional stability and maritime security.
