In order to head the Indian delegation to the 58th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which is set for May 4–7, 2025, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman has arrived in Milan, Italy. Officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Economic Affairs are part of the Indian delegation.
Sitharaman will take part in a number of significant activities at the gathering, which includes high-level delegations from ADB member nations, international financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society.
The ADB Governors’ Seminar with the theme “Cross-Border Collaboration for Future Resilience” is one of these, as is the Governors’ Plenary Session and the Governors’ Business Session. With an emphasis on topics including economic growth, climate resilience, digital transformation, and innovation throughout Asia and the Pacific, the Annual Meeting seeks to promote discussion on regional collaboration, sustainable development, and resilience.
Sitharaman will meet bilaterally with her Italian, Japanese, and Bhutanese counterparts, as well as with the president of the ADB, the president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), on the sidelines of the major events. It is anticipated that these talks will fortify India’s development and economic alliances and look for ways to work together more effectively.
Along with official engagements, the Finance Minister will meet with CEOs, business leaders, and think tanks from around the world, engage with the Indian diaspora in Milan, and take part in a plenary session on “Balancing Economic and Climate Resilience” at the NEXT Milan Forum at Bocconi University. Her visit highlights India’s growing influence in determining the economic and climatic agenda in Asia and beyond, as well as the nation’s dedication to multilateral cooperation, sustainable development, and international policy discourse.
