A deal to upgrade the two countries’ ties to a “Strategic Partnership” was signed by PM Modi and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi earlier on Sunday.

The two presidents talked on measures to strengthen commerce, investment, defence, security, renewable energy, cultural, and people-to-people ties as well as the relationship between the two countries.

The two parties agreed on a contract that would turn their bilateral relationship into a “strategic partnership.” In addition, India and Egypt inked three Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) in the areas of agriculture, archaeology and antiquities, and competition law.

Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, tweeted, “On June 25, 2023, PM @narendramodi met with President @AlsisiOfficial in Cairo and the meeting was fruitful.” The leaders talked about ways to strengthen bilateral ties in areas like commerce and investment, security and defence, renewable energy, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties. The leaders signed an agreement to upgrade the two-way partnership to a “Strategic Partnership”. Also signed were three Memoranda of Understanding in the areas of agriculture, archaeology & antiquities, and competition law.

Earlier, PM Modi received the “Order of the Nile,” Egypt’s highest state decoration, from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

PM Modi also went to Cairo’s Al-Hakim Mosque. He declared on Twitter, “Honoured to visit Cairo’s iconic Al-Hakim Mosque. It’s an outstanding illustration of Egypt’s rich history and culture.

PM Modi, who landed in Cairo on Saturday, visited the Heliopolis War Cemetery later in the day to pay respects to the Indian soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War.

In Cairo on Saturday, PM Modi and his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly participated in a roundtable discussion. During his two days in the Arab country, he also visited with thought leaders in Egypt.

PM Modi and Hassan Allam, CEO of one of the biggest Egyptian businesses operating in the Middle East and North Africa region, had a fruitful conversation. The two leaders talked about how to work more closely with Indian businesses to develop green hydrogen and renewable energy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets Mohamed Medhat Hassan Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Properties, in Cairo, Egypt, said Arindam Bagchi on Twitter. Hassan Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Holding Company, one of the biggest Egyptian businesses active in the Middle East and North Africa, and PM @narendramodi had a successful meeting.

The prime minister was greeted enthusiastically and met with chants of “Vande Mataram” and “Modi Modi” when he arrived at a hotel in Cairo after landing in Egypt. The Ritz Carlton Hotel hosted an Indian community gathering to greet PM Modi.

The Indian diaspora showed its excitement for PM Modi’s arrival by singing “Modi Modi” and “Vande Mataram” and waving the Tricolour.

To greet PM Modi, several people also performed cultural programmes and sung Indian music.
