On Sunday, April 6, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah began a three-day trip to Jammu and Kashmir. This is his first trip to the area since the National Conference government led by Omar Abdullah was established in October 2024. Reviewing security, evaluating development projects, and interacting with local stakeholders are the main objectives of Shah’s itinerary.
Senior BJP leaders and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha greeted Shah when he arrived in Jammu. For the visit, security has been stepped up throughout the region. Shah’s itinerary consists of:
April 6: On the occasion of the 46th celebration of the BJP’s founding day, Shah attended a meeting at the party’s headquarters in Trikuta Nagar. Senior BJP leaders hosted gatherings and flag-hoisting ceremonies throughout Jammu and Kashmir to commemorate the occasion.
In order to assess the security situation along the India-Pakistan border, Shah is scheduled to visit the BSF Border Outpost Vinay in Kathua on April 7. At Raj Bhavan in Jammu, he will also meet with the families of the Jammu and Kashmir Police martyrs and, out of compassion, give some of them appointment letters.
April 8: Shah will preside over a meeting to examine current Union Territory development projects at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar. Additionally, he will chair a different meeting that will concentrate on the region’s general security situation.
Tensions have increased in the wake of recent militant encounters in Kathua that resulted in the deaths of two militants and four police officers. During his meetings, Shah is anticipated to place a strong emphasis on bolstering border security, stopping infiltration, and resolving issues related to militancy.
