After security forces launched a search operation, a significant encounter took place in Sanyal village, Kathua district, Jammu & Kashmir, on March 23, 2025. Reliable information about the existence of terrorists in the region, particularly in the Hiranagar sector close to the International Border, served as the impetus for the operation. A group of three to five terrorists who had allegedly crossed the border and taken up residence in a crowded nursery were noticed by security forces during the operation.
When the terrorists in concealment started shooting at the police party, the situation became more heated and there was a heated gunfight that lasted for almost 30 minutes. Thankfully, no casualties among the security personnel were reported at the time of this first clash. To help neutralise the threat, police, Army, and paramilitary forces promptly sent reinforcements to the area.
Anchal Kumar, a seven-year-old girl, was hurt in the altercation and was taken to a nearby hospital, which is a worrying development. It is now unknown what exactly caused her injuries.
The operation is being supervised on-site by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, who is making sure that different security agencies are working together to manage the situation efficiently. In order to secure the region and get rid of any risks the terrorists may still pose, local officials have asked citizens to maintain their composure and help with security agents.
