The 55th Director General-Level Border Coordination Conference between the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) delegation has begun in New Delhi.
Beginning on February 18, 2025, and ending on February 20, 2025, this four-day conference is scheduled to take place. Under the direction of its Director General, the 13-member BGB delegation will discuss a range of bilateral border security and management-related topics.
Among the main subjects anticipated to be covered in the discussions are:
A high-level Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) delegation arrived in New Delhi on Monday for bi-annual talks with the Border Security Force (BSF) amid escalating tensions. Known as the 55th Director General-Level Border Coordination Conference, the bilateral talks began Tuesday and will run through February 20. After Bangladesh’s government changed in August 2024, this is the first high-level meeting between the two border guarding forces.
The Indian government told Parliament during the Budget Session that it has expressed to Bangladesh its desire for a collaborative strategy to fight cross-border crimes, including efforts to erect border fences. The unfenced portion of the border, according to Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, is 864.482 km long and contains 174.51 km of “non-feasible” gap.
The interim government in Bangladesh has stated plans to amend what it considers “uneven agreements” pertaining to its borders with India at a future summit between the top border guard commanders of the two nations. A ‘joint record of discussions’ is anticipated to be signed on February 20th, marking the end of these talks.
Senior officials from both sides will participate in the talks, including representatives from a range of foreign and domestic ministries. It is expected that the results of these discussions will improve border security cooperation and fortify bilateral ties between the two countries.
