Defence Technology Startup Tonbo Imaging Secures ₹175 Crores in Funding

Defence technology startup In a Series D pre-IPO investment round headed by Florintree Advisors and Export-Import Bank of India, Tonbo Imaging successfully raised ₹175 crores, valuing the business at ₹1,500 crores.

The funds will be used to increase its worldwide footprint, deploy high-power microwave technology for warfare applications, and create next-generation infrared sensors.

Tonbo Imaging was established in 2012 by Arvind Lakshmikumar, Ankit Kumar, and Cecilia D’Souza. The company specialises in cutting-edge imaging solutions for transportation safety, infrastructure protection, and military surveillance.

The Indian Air Force and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) are among the agencies to which the company delivers its goods. Tonbo uses machine learning and computational imaging to develop affordable solutions for defence forces around the world, drawing inspiration from the visual talents of dragonflies.

In the past, Tonbo has raised more than ₹300 crore from investors such as HBL Engineering, Artiman Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Celesta Capital, and Edelweiss Private Equity. The company hopes to expand its operations internationally and push the boundaries of innovation in directed energy and infrared imaging with this most recent funding round.
