Defense Official: Mukti Joddhas and Bangladesh Army Officers Will Attend Vijay Diwas Celebrations

On December 16, 2024, a group from Bangladesh is scheduled to attend the Vijay Diwas festivities in Kolkata, which will include Mukti Joddhas and Bangladesh Army officials. This event honors the liberation of Bangladesh as a result of the Indian Armed Forces’ victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war.

Mukti Joddhas, a member of the guerilla struggle against Pakistani control during the war, and active officers from the Bangladesh Armed Forces will be among the delegation’s nine members.

Vijay Diwas, which is observed on December 16 every year, commemorates the liberation of Bangladesh and the capitulation of almost 93,000 Pakistani soldiers. The day pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifices made by the Indian troops during this fight.

The Indian Army’s Eastern Command has planned a number of events to mark the occasion, including wreath-laying ceremonies at Vijay Smarak and a military tattoo at the Military Training Centre in Kolkata.

During the 1971 war, the Mukti Joddhas were instrumental in helping Indian forces achieve major wins over Pakistan. Their involvement in Vijay Diwas highlights the strong ties that have been forged between Bangladesh and India over their shared history and liberation movement.

This year’s event, which highlights both historical ties and current issues faced by its residents, takes place in the midst of political unrest in Bangladesh.
