Taipei: According to the Ministry of National Defense, at least nine Chinese military aircraft and four naval ships were spotted in Taiwan on Monday (MND).

The official announcement was published on Monday by Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense through Twitter and read: “By 6 am (UTC+8) today, 9 PLA aircraft and 4 PLAN vessels had been spotted flying over Taiwan. The situation has been closely watched by the R.O.C. Armed Forces, who have sent CAP aircraft, Navy ships, and land-based missile systems to respond to these activities.”

On Sunday morning, Taiwan reported that a total of 10 Chinese military aircraft and four naval ships had been spotted in the region, bringing the total to 19 Chinese military aircraft and eight naval ships.

Taiwan Focus reports that the MND withheld information on the warplanes’ flight paths and did not clarify whether any of the Chinese aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait or entered Taiwan’s air defence identification zone (ADIZ).

According to the Ministry, in order to locate the Chinese military aircraft, combat air and naval patrols were dispatched, and defence missile systems were turned on.

Taiwan Focus reports that starting September 17, 2020, the Taiwanese Defense Ministry has posted information about Chinese aircraft approaching Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

After US White House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan on August 2-3, 2022, China escalated its military activity and conducted live-fire drills in six different places around the nation in early August 2022.

The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense tweeted that Taiwan had earlier discovered 31 Chinese military planes and four warships, the latest invasion amid escalating tensions between the two countries.
