EMBRAER CONFIRMS TALKS WITH INDIA ABOUT SALE OF C-390

World News

Embraer is apparently in talks with Indian officials, offering the C-390 Millennium to strengthen the Indian Air Force’s medium/heavy transport capability (IAF).

According to the Aviacionline aviation website, Jackson Schneider, President and CEO of Embraer Defence & Security, confirmed the information:

«We are completely certain that the C-390 is the ideal product for India. To be honest, we are just getting started with the Indian authorities in terms of discussions. And we believe that with the appropriate Indian partner and the proper methodology, we will be able to produce the finest solution for India, even including Indian products, capacities, and capabilities into the plane.»

«We are completely open to integrating Indian solutions into the aeroplane, not only for India but also for other countries,» Jackson Schneider remarked.

In the past, the Brazilian aerospace giant collaborated with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in the production of three «Netra» airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft for the IAF, which integrated locally developed sensors and electronics on the Embraer ERJ145 platform.

In addition, the Air Force and the Border Security Force (BSF) use Embraer Legacy 600 aircraft to transport government officials and VIPs.

In response to another query about the company’s look at India, Jackson Schneider had this to say: «India is a major market, it is one of the countries we are near to geopolitically. I was representing Brazil at the BRICS chapter and had numerous conversations with India. India has a very complementary defence industry. We are eager to collaborate and debate new ideas. As in the past, we are open to both countries creating things and finding answers together.»
Embraer for Ilyushin

Years ago, United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) of Russia and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) of India attempted to form a joint venture with the goal of producing the Il-276, a modern military transport aircraft that was to replace the Il-76.

However, a number of circumstances conspired against the project, and the Il-276 never advanced beyond the concept stage. HAL announced its withdrawal from the joint venture in early 2016, leaving Russia unable to complete the programme on its alone.

The Il-276’s features and design were strikingly similar to Embraer’s C-390 Millennium, hence the same needs listed by the IAF should be perfectly met by the Brazilian aircraft.
