Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has expressed optimism about the improving security situation in Kashmir, stating that the atmosphere of fear in the valley has significantly diminished.
Speaking at Pahalgam, a renowned tourist destination in J&K, Abdullah acknowledged the tragic impact of the recent April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives and temporarily dampened tourism in the region. However, he emphasised that government initiatives to strengthen security have begun to restore confidence among locals and tourists alike.
Abdullah emphasized the tourism industry’s comeback, pointing out that more people are traveling to well-known locations like Pahalgam and Gulmarg, where hotel occupancy is increasing and traveler activity is expanding. He emphasized that the valley is once again turning into a secure and friendly travel destination and invited both domestic and foreign visitors to return to Kashmir and take in its unmatched natural beauty.
Abdullah urged the Ministry of External Affairs to take proactive steps to have the travel advisories that have been issued by a number of nations warning against visiting Jammu and Kashmir rescinded. He urged the Indian government to make it easier for foreign visitors, particularly golfers who are attracted to the area’s picturesque courses, to return, arguing that the better security climate merits a reevaluation by foreign governments.
Additionally, Abdullah emphasized the value of boosting sports tourism, especially golf, which has become more well-known at national contests like the Khelo India Games and at international ones like the Olympics and Asian Games. In order to improve India’s chances in international athletic competitions, he promoted more golf participation.
Abdullah praised Kashmir’s distinct natural beauty and said he hoped more people would travel there to take in the allure and strengthen the nation. He claimed that people shouldn’t let fear stop them from traveling because doing so would only impede the advancement of the area.
Regarding the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, which is set to commence on July 3, Abdullah characterized the yearly pilgrimage as an essential custom for the area. In order to better promote Kashmir as a serene and alluring travel destination, he expressed the hope that many pilgrims will come and share their wonderful experiences.
Regarding politics, Abdullah responded to rumors of internal strife within the National Conference, namely involving Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, the MP for Srinagar. He dismissed these worries as repeated attempts to undermine the party, reaffirming the leadership’s resolve to address the concerns of the people and expressing faith in the state’s sustained development during the ensuing five years.
