GEETA RAO GUPTA, THE US AMBASSADOR-AT-LARGE FOR GLOBAL WOMEN’S ISSUES, WILL ARRIVE IN INDIA FOR A WEEK-LONG VISIT

The US envoy will begin her visit to Gujarat from August 1–4 when she arrives. During this time, she will lead the US delegation to the G20 Ministerial Conference on Women’s Empowerment and the G20 Alliance for the Empowerment and Progression of Women’s Economic Representation Conference, both of which are being hosted by the Government of India.

Rachel Vogelstein, Special Assistant to the President at the White House Gender Policy Council and Special Advisor to the National Security Council on Gender, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Nancy Izzo Jackson, U.S. Consul General at U.S. Consulate General Mumbai Mike Hankey, and USAID Senior Coordinator for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment will also be a part of the US delegation, according to the State Department’s official announcement.

The participation of Ambassador Rao Gupta highlights and enhances US government efforts to promote gender equality in the region and beyond.

Rao Gupta will then go to Mumbai on August 5 and 6, where she will meet with representatives of the commercial sector and civic society to talk about India’s top concerns for gender equality.

The main debate topics would be how to increase women’s economic security by removing structural obstacles to their equal economic participation, bridging the gender digital divide, and preventing and responding to gender-based violence.

After that, on August 7, Ambassador Rao Gupta and Deputy Assistant Secretary Jackson will go to Bangalore to give the keynote address at the WEConnect International Asia Pacific Conference.

In Bangalore, the Ambassador will meet with female leaders and representatives of civil society organisations to discuss programmes aimed at advancing women’s rights and empowerment in India.
