INDIAN NATIONALS’ EARLY DISCHARGE FROM THE RUSSIAN ARMY IS A “TOP PRIORITY,” SAYS MEA

MEA said that after the government became aware of the problem, a number of Indians serving in the Russian Army were released.

Speaking on the matter, MEA spokesman Randhir Jaiswal stated that they were aware of the Indians who had enlisted in the Russian Army for support positions. He went on to say that the Indian Embassy had brought up the issue with the Russian authorities in order to get it resolved quickly.

According to media sources, a number of Indians were compelled to fight with Russian soldiers on the border between Russia and Ukraine in addition to serving as security assistance for the Russian Army.

The government said in a different statement issued by MEA on Monday that the ministry had been made aware of some media allegations that surfaced about Indians asking for assistance in order to be released from the Russian army. MEA referred to the reports as “inaccurate” and stated that the Russian authorities are actively pursuing every single complaint that the Indian Embassy in Moscow received.

It went on to say that the Russian Embassy in New Delhi had also been contacted about the cases that were brought to MEA’s attention.

MEA claimed that it was dedicated to the situation and that it was giving the Indian nationals’ release high priority. According to the statement, the ministry is actively pursuing all appropriate cases for an early departure from the Russian Army and is in contact with the Russian authorities.
