Maldivian President Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi Open New Defense Ministry Building in Male

During his two-day state visit to the Maldives at the president’s invitation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu jointly opened the new Ministry of Defense (MoD) headquarters in Male.

Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the eleven-story Dhoshimeyna Building, which is currently the new headquarters for the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), is a notable representation of the two countries’ strong, long-standing defense and security cooperation.

The state-of-the-art complex, which was built with financial support from India, is anticipated to greatly improve the Maldivian defense and law enforcement organizations’ operational capabilities.

Both leaders stressed the strength and depth of the India-Maldives relationship during the inauguration and their meeting. The Maldives’ pivotal role in India’s “Neighbourhood First” and “Mahasagar Vision” regional frameworks was reiterated by Prime Minister Modi.

Their conversations included a wide range of subjects, such as improved business and cultural exchanges, connectivity and infrastructure initiatives, cooperation in digital technologies, and cooperative efforts to combat climate change and advance renewable energy.

On behalf of the Indian government, Modi also gave President Muizzu two Aarogya Maitri Health Cubes, highlighting the positive aspect of bilateral relations. These cutting-edge portable hospital units can autonomously manage medical emergencies and treat up to 200 patients for 72 straight hours. They are furnished with critical care amenities like intensive care units, surgery rooms, labs, and X-ray imaging.

The agreements and activities, according to both leaders, are more evidence of the strong and long-lasting friendship between India and the Maldives.

India’s dedication to bolstering Maldivian development, security, and disaster resilience is demonstrated by the opening of the new defense facility and the donation of the health units, which fortify comprehensive collaboration based on shared values and regional stability.
