Georgetown: S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, met with Albert Ramdin, his colleague from Suriname, on Friday.

Jaishankar recalled Chan Santokhi of Suriname’s visit to India for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on his official Twitter account. He emphasised that Chan Santokhi’s visit further enhanced the “age-old ties” between the two countries.

“Began the morning in Guyana by meeting FM Albert Ramdin of Suriname,” Jaishankar tweeted. recalled President @CSantokhi’s trip to India in January for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which further strengthened our long-standing connections.

Friday marked the beginning of Jaishankar’s three-day tour to Guyana. Hugh Todd, the foreign minister of Guyana, welcomed the EAM when it arrived in the Guyanese capital city of Georgetown.

“Arrived in Georgetown, Guyana to a warm reception from FM Hugh Todd,” the external affairs minister wrote in a tweet. Seize the opportunity for a fruitful visit.

Jaishankar will co-chair the Joint Commission Meeting with his counterpart Hugh Hilton Todd, which will include discussions on the whole range of issues between the two nations, in addition to calling on the leadership and talking with many Ministers in Guyana.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs’ official statement, the EAM’s visit to Guyana would also provide an opportunity for a meeting of foreign ministers in the format agreed upon by the 15-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and India-COFCOR, as well as for bilateral meetings with participating ministers.

On April 24–25, Jaishankar will go to Panama following his stop in Guyana. Foreign Minister Janaina Tewaney Mencomo will serve as his host as he addresses the highest levels of government.

He will meet with representatives of the eight-nation Central American Integration System (SICA) during the India-SICA Foreign Ministerial Meeting, which will also be held during this visit.

The EAM will go to Colombia from April 25 to April 27 after his visit to Panama, where he will meet with a number of important figures from the political, corporate, and civil society spheres. He will assess the two countries’ relations during his meeting with Alvaro Leyva Duran, the foreign minister of Colombia.

Jaishankar will also travel to the Dominican Republic from April 27 to 29. Since the two countries’ diplomatic relations were established in 1999, this is India’s highest-level visit to date.

EAM will speak with Roberto Alvarez, the Dominican Republic’s foreign minister. The Indian resident mission will be formally inaugurated by the two leaders. Additionally, he is scheduled to speak at the Dominican Republic Foreign Ministry.
