Recently, on April 11, 2025, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani and Minister Anna Maria Bernini to discuss important issues.
Enhancing bilateral cooperation in a variety of areas, including as commerce, investment, maritime security, technology, education, and culture, was the main goal of the discussions. The India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, which was adopted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024, was reviewed by both parties.
Jaishankar emphasised the solid basis of the friendship between Italy and India, stressing respect for each other’s cultures, traditions, and shared democratic principles.
He emphasised the Joint Strategic Action Plan’s strategic objective to strengthen partnership in sectors including scientific collaboration, higher education, co-production, innovation, and talent exchange when speaking to the Italy-India Business, Science, and Technology Forum earlier in the day.
Additionally, the leaders discussed current events in Europe, the Mediterranean, and West Asia. They reiterated their dedication to a prosperous and stable global order founded on respect for one another and the rule of law.
Jaishankar expressed hope for the developing India-Italy partnership while providing social media updates on these talks.
This interaction expands on earlier diplomatic initiatives to strengthen cooperation in international fora against organised crime and terrorism. Indian and Italian officials have previously met with the aim of furthering bilateral agreement discussions and tackling global issues through the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the United Nations.
