On February 8, 2025, the Ministry of Defense and Bharat Electronics Limited in New Delhi signed a contract for the purchase of 28 EON-51 systems for the Indian Navy’s 11 New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and three Cadet Training Ships. The total cost of the contract, including taxes, was ₹642.17 crore under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
The EON-51 is an electro-optical fire control system that uses thermal and electro-optical imaging devices to search, detect, and classify targets.
Over the course of three years, the program will create jobs and promote the active involvement of different Indian industries, including MSMEs, greatly aiding the government’s efforts to realize “Atmanirbharta” in the defense sector.
