A significant purchase order of ₹13.67 Crores (tax included) has been obtained by Avantel Ltd, a prominent Indian telecom and defense electronics company, from the Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), a crucial lab within the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
The order, which is especially for the creation of Software Defined Radios (SDRs), was formally confirmed by email on June 20, 2025. It is expected to be executed by August 2027. In addition to being a major turning point for Avantel, this deal demonstrates the company’s growing collaboration with India’s top defense research institutes.
Advanced SDRs, which are essential for contemporary military communications, will be designed and developed as part of this project. Flexible, software-based control of radio functions is made possible by SDR technology, which supports a large variety of frequencies and protocols and enables quick adaptation to shifting operational requirements.
Having previously created in-house HF Software Defined Radios and other cutting-edge communication systems for military and aerospace applications, Avantel has a track record of success in this field. With current projects for both ground and aerospace platforms and a dedication to bolstering India’s technological sovereignty and independence in defense electronics, the company’s proficiency in SDRs is widely acknowledged.
Avantel’s standing as a reliable partner for India’s defense industry is further cemented by this most recent order from DEAL (DRDO). A ₹17.7 Crore order from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the supply, installation, and commissioning of 1 KW HF SDRs for ground and aircraft applications is one of the company’s recent major contracts.
Together, these contracts demonstrate Avantel’s strong skills and compatibility with national programs like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, which seek to boost domestic production and lessen reliance on foreign technology.
By providing cutting-edge SDR solutions suited to the particular requirements of defense applications, Avantel’s partnership with DEAL (DRDO) is anticipated to improve the communication infrastructure of the Indian armed forces.
Additionally, the project will help the nation expand its innovative manufacturing skills and skilled labor force. Avantel’s contribution to India’s defence modernisation and technological improvement is expected to become even more as it keeps investing in R&D and diversifying its business.
