Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, no one can occupy even an inch of Indian soil, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, refuting any accusations that India lost a “substantial” amount of land to China.

“When talks take place between two countries, it is not easy to determine the time frame by when will we get the results, but both countries are holding talks with the belief that we will reach a resolution,” said the defence minister.

“On the issues that we are discussing, if they (China) agree, then I don’t think there is a reason for distrust,” he said.

Since the Chinese attempted to radically change the status quo on the Line of Actual Control in May 2020, the two nations have been engaged in a military standoff for the past three years.

“If building or the erection of posts is done on the territory falling on that side (the Chinese side) of the LAC. How can I address that? We can do it on this side of the LAC, and they can do it on that side,” Singh remarked.

“We are also working on building projects. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and other groups have undertaken a significant amount of borderside work. I’ll agree that they and we both completed the construction. They grow on their side, we grow on ours, but harmony between the two should be preserved.
