With J-20 fighter jets, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force recently drove away foreign aircraft that were endangering China’s territorial airspace, fully utilising the aircraft’s stealth capabilities. According to experts, the PLA forces are well-equipped and trained to handle a variety of threats.

China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Tuesday that the Wang Hai Air Group, a brigade of the PLA Eastern Theater Command, carried out missions to protect China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, including combat alert patrols in the East China Sea and the Taiwan Straits. The Wang Hai Air Group is the first combat unit of the PLA Air Force that is fully equipped with J-20 fighter jets.

Yang Juncheng, the head of the air group, and pilot Wei Xin took off in two J-20 fighter jets as part of an emergency sortie mission to intercept two foreign aircraft. According to CCTV, the two closely coordinated, adopted advantageous positions, and staunchly protected China’s airspace security.

“The J-20’s main advantage is its ability to conceal itself. It indicates that although our radar can already start attacks, the enemy radar cannot see anything “Wei informed CCTV.

“Imagine the level of psychological strain the adversaries would experience. To dodge our threats, they can only make rapid evasive moves. They would retreat if we moved too quickly, “said Wei.

The Wang Hai Air Group recently completed important missions, including the routine management of control of the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone, combat alert patrols in the South China Sea, and patrols around the island of Taiwan, flying across the Bashi Strait. The Wang Hai Air Group has an outstanding combat history, having downed and damaged 29 hostile aircraft in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950–1953).

“I could clearly see the entire coastline and mountain range of the motherland’s precious island [Taiwan] from the cockpit of my warplane,” Yang was cited by CCTV as saying.

Since [the island of Taiwan] is part of our nation’s territory and [the Taiwan Straits] do not serve as a border between us, I promised myself at the time that I would return.

Daily reports on PLA aircraft activity surrounding Taiwan are published by the island’s defence administration, however as of the time of publication, no stealth-capable J-20s had been spotted.

The first unit to receive the J-16 fighter jet also carried out combat alert patrol missions that resulted in the expulsion of foreign warplanes by a brigade under the PLA Western Theater Command.

Recently, two foreign fighter jets approached pilot Li Chao as he was on a nocturnal patrol. Li had to escape the pursuit by turning off all active electronic gadgets, flying slowly, and then closing in from the tail of one of the foreign planes to gain the upper hand, according to CCTV on Saturday.

The PLA troops stationed around the nation are always prepared to take action against unidentified aircraft flying into their area, including expelling such planes as necessary, and are equipped with modern warplanes of various varieties. Qianshao Fu
