PM MODI Attends the ASEAN-India Summit in Jakarta

Attended the ASEAN-India Summit on Thursday at the Jakarta Convention Centre was Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo greeted Prime Minister Modi upon his arrival at the Jakarta Convention Centre.

The Indian community gave Prime Minister Narendra Modi a warm welcome as he arrived in Jakarta on Thursday morning.

PM Modi arrived to chants of “Vande Mataram” and “Modi Modi” from the Indian diaspora members who had assembled at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Jakarta to welcome him.

At Jakarta International Airport, PM Modi received a formal greeting. I. Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, the Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, welcomed him.

Prior to departing for Indonesia on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi made a statement in which he expressed his desire to discuss concrete ways to work together to address the world’s problems with other leaders.

He also referred to India’s “Act East Policy” and its interaction with the ASEAN bloc as key pillars. The Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, invited the Prime Minister to visit Jakarta.

The 20th ASEAN-India Summit will be my first involvement. I’m looking forward to addressing the future directions of our alliance, which is entering its fourth decade, with ASEAN leaders. The ‘Act East’ strategy of India is based in large part on engagement with ASEAN. Our relationships have gained new vigour as a result of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the prime minister stated.

“I’ll be attending the 18th East Asia Summit after that. Discussions about important regional topics like environment, health, digital transformation, and food and energy security can be had at this forum. I’m interested in discussing realistic collaboration strategies with other EAS Leaders so that we can all work together to overcome these global concerns, he continued.

In advance of the September 9–10 G20 Summit, PM Modi will return to New Delhi on Thursday night.
