During his five-nation tour of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia from July 2 to 9, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi prominently showcased India’s cultural heritage by presenting handcrafted gifts to world leaders reflecting the country’s artistic legacy and spiritual traditions.
In Argentina, PM Modi presented President Javier Milei with a hand-etched silver lion mounted on a Fuchsite stone base. The lion, created by Rajasthani artisans, represents strength and leadership, while the Fuchsite—also known as the “Stone of Healing and Resilience”—adds depth and meaning. This item showcases Rajasthan’s famed metalwork and gemstone workmanship, with materials derived from India’s mineral-rich regions.
Modi gave Argentine Vice President Victoria Villarruel a traditional Madhubani artwork of the Sun from Bihar’s Mithila area. Madhubani art, known for its bold lines, elaborate patterns, and natural hues, is an age-old folk tradition that is commonly displayed in houses during festivals. The picture, which depicts the Sun as a symbol of life and energy and is surrounded by floral themes, honors India’s ongoing folk art.
Modi gave Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, two valuable gifts:
A Kalash (metal vessel) filled with sacred water from the River Sarayu in Ayodhya, revered in Hindu mythology for its connection to Lord Ram and said to bring peace, purity, and prosperity.
A silver replica of the Ayodhya Ram Temple made by artisans in Uttar Pradesh. This pure silver model depicts the temple’s hallowed architecture and represents justice, dedication, and India’s beautiful temple craftsmanship.
These acts of cultural diplomacy are part of Modi’s larger vision for India’s involvement in BRICS and on the world stage. At the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil, Modi emphasized reinventing the grouping under India’s future chairmanship, emphasizing on “Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability.” He reaffirmed India’s commitment to people-centered progress, inclusivity, and prioritizing the issues of the Global South, drawing parallels with India’s G20 chairmanship.
The journey also included dynamic cultural activities, such as traditional dance and music performances by the Indian diaspora in Brazil, which highlighted India’s extensive cultural connections abroad.
PM Modi’s carefully chosen gifts and public activities have effectively projected India’s creative quality, spiritual depth, and cultural diversity on the global arena, strengthening diplomatic connections and promoting a sense of unity and collaboration among BRICS and partner states.
