Russian President Putin Strongly Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Expresses ‘Full Support’ To India

The Pahalgam terror incident in Jammu and Kashmir, which targeted tourists and claimed a large number of lives, was sharply denounced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

President Putin gave India his “full support” in the battle against terrorism and emphasized the need to bring those responsible and their sympathizers to justice in a direct interview with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) formally conveyed this disapproval, emphasizing Russia’s support for India at this crucial juncture.

Additionally, both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between Russia and India. In addition to wishing President Putin a happy 80th celebration of Victory Day, Prime Minister Modi invited him visit India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.

In a previous conversation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussed the incident and urged bilateral political and diplomatic solutions of India-Pakistan tensions. This is in line with Russia’s persistent support for open communication and amicable resolution of regional disputes.

Twenty-five tourists and one local Muslim who attempted to help were among the 26 people killed in the Pahalgam incident, which was expressly directed at Hindu visitors and was carried out by highly armed extremists. Indian officials connected the incident to Lashkar-e-Taiba, a terrorist organization based in Pakistan, and there was indications that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) provided operational assistance. A sizable reward for information on the suspects was advertised, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) began an investigation.

India and Russia have been fortifying their strategic alliance in spite of the concerns with Pakistan. To demonstrate the strength and depth of their partnership even in the face of regional difficulties, the two countries recently agreed on six new strategic initiatives to increase bilateral investment and collaboration across a range of industries.

The long-standing India-Russian alliance is strengthened by President Putin’s categorical denunciation of the Pahalgam terror assault and pledge of assistance for India, particularly in the areas of security and counterterrorism. Even though India confronts increased security threats in its neighborhood, the two nations continue to collaborate in the economic, technical, and defense sectors, demonstrating a strong diplomatic relationship.
