An important milestone in marine technical education has been reached with the opening of a state-of-the-art ME-GI (Gas Injection) engine training facility at the Anglo-Eastern marine Training Centre (AEMTC) in Mumbai by MAN Energy Solutions and Anglo-Eastern.
Dedicated to teaching maritime experts on the MK-2 ME-GI dual-fuel engine, which can run on both heavy fuel oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), this new facility was opened on February 19, 2025. As the marine sector shifts to alternative fuels and lower-emission operations, this engine technology becomes more and more important.
The extension of the training center strengthens the long-standing alliance between MAN Energy Solutions and Anglo-Eastern, which dates back to 2003, when AEMTC began offering specialized engine training courses. The new ME-GI facility will directly help ship owners, managers, and stakeholders throughout the region by improving crew competency in maintenance procedures and the safe operation of sophisticated dual-fuel engines.
AEMTC Mumbai’s principal and director, Francis Akkara, emphasized that the 5-day ME-GI course will help qualified crew members advance their skills, which will ultimately lead to safer and more effective marine operations.
The updated AEMTC Mumbai provides a state-of-the-art 32,000 square foot training space and is now situated in Andheri East’s Leela Business Park. It has state-of-the-art labs for automation, instrumentation, and high-voltage systems in addition to specialized partner training facilities for MAN PrimeServ, WinGD, and Wärtsilä.
The facility has several simulations, including as an LNG bunkering simulator and a full mission engine room simulator, which give students a genuine, hands-on experience. In order to provide a thorough and cozy learning atmosphere, the facility also has a library, a sizable canteen, multipurpose classrooms, and navigation simulators.
At the 2025 Anglo-Eastern Mumbai Conference, prominent members of the industry, such as Carsten Ostenfeldt, Chief Operating Officer of Anglo-Eastern, and Michael Petersen, Senior Vice President of MAN Energy Solutions, attended the opening of the ME-GI training center. This occasion demonstrated both organizations’ dedication to improving marine training standards and meeting the changing technological demands of the sector.
In keeping with their cooperative strategy, Anglo-Eastern’s technical team further strengthened their technical competence in February 2025 by visiting MAN Energy Solutions’ Singapore facility to talk about innovative engine part reconditioning methods and classification society approval procedures.
Additionally, Anglo-Eastern has opened a new office for its India Shared Services Centre (ISSC) in Mumbai, increasing the size of its operating footprint. The ISSC has been supporting global ship management functions since 2023, improving service consistency and streamlining procedures for Anglo-Eastern’s global network. The company’s expanding teams will be accommodated in the additional office space, which will also increase overall operational efficiency.
Mumbai’s position as a premier center for maritime education and innovation is further cemented with the opening of the ME-GI engine training facility at AEMTC Mumbai, which marks a significant investment in marine safety, technical competency, and the industry’s shift to cleaner propulsion technology.
