A major advancement in bilateral defense cooperation was made during the eighth meeting of the India-US Joint Working Group on Aircraft Carrier Technology Cooperation (JWGACTC), which took place in Delhi and Goa from May 13 to 16, 2025.
The JWGACTC, which was established under the India-US Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI), has finished ten years of fruitful collaboration with an emphasis on developing aircraft carrier technology and operational capabilities for both countries.
At several defense facilities, a six-member US delegation led by Rear Admiral Casey Moton, Program Executive Officer for Aircraft Carriers, met with Indian counterparts. Assistant Controller Carrier Projects Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi co-chaired the inaugural session in New Delhi. Both parties reviewed the group’s accomplishments in technical cooperation and information sharing during this session, which focused on the past ten years.
Future collaboration in various facets of aircraft carrier technology, including maintenance procedures, operating philosophies, flying operations, and the incorporation of new technologies, were among the key subjects covered. In order to improve both navies’ capabilities and interoperability, the talks also touched on areas of shared technological interest and collaborative training requirements.
The operational and technical aspects of carrier aviation were the main topics of the US delegation’s professional contacts with Indian Navy aviation experts in Goa. In particular, as India works toward plans for its next-generation indigenous aircraft carriers—which are anticipated to be bigger and more capable than current platforms—these sessions allowed both parties to exchange best practices and investigate opportunities for innovation.
A joint statement that acknowledged the milestone in bilateral defense ties and reaffirmed the commitment to ongoing collaboration was released at the end of the meeting. In light of the changing maritime security issues, both countries see this relationship as essential to preserving a technological advantage and strategic balance in the Indo-Pacific area.
