THE GOVERNMENT IS WORKING ON DRONES QUALITY STANDARDS

World News

According to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, the government is seeking to create required quality standards for drones and electric vehicles (EVs) in an effort to reduce imports of subpar goods and support domestic industry.

He said that efforts were also being made to create quality control orders (QCOs) for EV charging infrastructure.

Standards for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have been defined for drones used in agriculture, and now work is being done on UAVs that will be used for general requirements, testing sub-system requirements, and cybersecurity.

Standards for specific specifications for electric power trains and rechargeable electrical energy storage systems for particular categories of cars, electric rickshaws, and type approval of hybrid electric vehicles are being created in the EV market.

“New domains, like drones, are ones where we are looking at standards…Similarly, Goyal told reporters, “We are working on standards for EVs and the infrastructure for EV charging.”

He said that thorough industry conversations precede the creation of any standards.

A number of battery standards have emerged, according to Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and they are currently working on battery swapping.

We anticipate being able to develop it in roughly three months, Tiwari added.

Goyal stated that it requires time.

The minister stated, “We seek industry participation on this.

A standard for UAV general requirements, subsystem testing requirements, and cybersecurity is currently being developed, according to Tiwari.

In order to defend drones from cyberattacks, unauthorized access, and data theft, he continued, cybersecurity is crucial.

The document is being created using risk identification as a foundation. Compliance with this document will secure the privacy of users, the security of the system, and the protection of sensitive data, he continued.
