Permanent Secretary of Malta’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and European Affairs and Trade, Christopher Cutajar, stated on Tuesday that India has made significant efforts to deter piracy attacks in the Gulf of Aden and the surrounding area in the midst of the rising tension in the Red Sea. He also called for stepping up cooperation to create a safer region for supply chains.

“We must first gain a deeper understanding of the area. These are ad hoc proxy conflicts that are taking place to convey messages. I am aware that India already engages in a significant amount of piracy in the Gulf of Aden and its environs. In addition, Europe is making every effort to safeguard the region’s supply chains,” he stated.
