External Affairs Minister S.
Jaishankar gave a strategic and incisive speech to Europe at the Arctic Circle India Forum 2025 in New Delhi, highlighting India’s changing foreign policy priorities in a world order that is changing quickly.
According to Jaishankar, India, a major player in the world today, wants real alliances built on respect and common interests rather than lectures from people who don’t do what they say abroad.
While China continues on its current course and the United States has become more self-sufficient, Jaishankar noted that Europe is coming under increasing pressure to adjust to the reality of a multipolar world.
He pointed out that as the global balance of power changes, Europe is getting a “reality check” and that some regions of the continent are still finding it difficult to adapt to these new circumstances. He claimed that in order for European countries to engage in meaningful cooperation with India, they must critically examine their strategy and exhibit increased mutuality of interest, sensitivity, and understandingHe warned against taking a moralizing or prescriptive approach, especially from people who don’t follow the same rules at home. “We search for partners rather than preachers when we look at the world. especially those who preach overseas but don’t live it out at home. Some parts of Europe are still having trouble with that issue,” Jaishankar said, emphasizing the necessity of engagement that is motivated by interests rather than ideologies.
Additionally, Jaishankar described India’s growing involvement in the polar regions. In relation to India’s space industry, he emphasized the country’s more than 40 years of Antarctic activity as well as recent initiatives to deepen its Arctic engagement, such as the creation of a specific Arctic policy and international partnerships like the Svalbard agreements with KSATGiven the Arctic’s increasing economic, technological, and environmental significance, he emphasized that developments there are of “extreme importance” to India. Being the youngest nation on Earth, India’s future is strongly linked to events occurring throughout the world, particularly in the Arctic, which will have a significant impact on the entire planet.
In conclusion, India’s aim for equitable, practical collaborations on the international scene was emphasized by Jaishankar’s statements at the Arctic Circle India Forum 2025. He urged Europe to put aside antiquated ideas and interact with India on the basis of respect, common interests, and a thorough awareness of the modern world.
He maintained that this strategy is necessary to ensure that international collaboration is both significant and successful as well as to solve the complex issues of a disputed, multipolar world.
