Although the project’s specifics have not yet been disclosed by the defense ministry, it is most likely to be divided between the two yards. The ministry followed the same path with Project 17A since project division facilitates on-time delivery.
Under the proposed order, the frigates will be equipped with electronic warfare systems, Brahmos cruise missiles, anti-submarine weapons, a fire control system produced locally, and a large percentage of indigenous components. Vendors and subcontractors will profit from the order, as they will receive the majority of the work.

MDL is one of India’s top warshipbuilding yards, situated in Mumbai. Prior to the government taking over in 1960, it was a private company. MDL recently completed building destroyers of the Project 15B class. It is now working on Project 17A class frigates and Kalvari class submarines.
