The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of Indian citizens, especially students studying in Iran, amid the rising hostilities between Israel and Iran.
In order to protect the safety and wellbeing of Indian students, the Indian Embassy in Tehran keeps a close eye on the quickly changing security situation.
The Embassy has taken a number of preventative steps in response to the increased threats after Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion” that targeted Iranian nuclear and military facilities and sparked a flurry of retaliation missile attacks from Iran.
Notably, wherever feasible, Indian students are being moved to safer areas in Iran with assistance from the Embassy. According to the Embassy, it is also looking into other workable ways to safeguard Indian citizens, such as possible evacuation strategies, and would keep the public informed as events unfold.
The Embassy has set up specific hotline numbers and an official Telegram channel for Indian people in Iran in order to keep lines of contact open and offer prompt assistance.
Real-time cautions and updates are being distributed via these platforms, reminding all Indians throughout the nation to stay vigilant, refrain from needless movement, and heed government instructions. In keeping with its holistic approach to crisis management, the Embassy also regularly communicates with community leaders throughout Iran to address issues related to safety and welfare.
With reports of explosions in Tehran and the conversion of public infrastructure, like as mosques and metro stations, into bomb shelters, Iran’s security situation has drastically worsened. Critical infrastructure, including nuclear research facilities and oil refineries, has been damaged, and civilian casualties have increased. Since the escalation started, Israeli strikes have killed at least 406 people in Iran and 14 in Israel, according to local officials.
As the situation develops, the MEA has promised to keep issuing advisories and taking proactive actions. Indian nationals in Iran are urgently encouraged to limit their outdoor mobility till stability returns, follow official directives, and stay in touch with Embassy channels.
This continuous interaction highlights India’s diplomatic endeavors in the Middle East and demonstrates a strong dedication to its nationals’ safety overseas during emergencies.
