To strengthen bilateral air force ties, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh travels to Greece and is greeted with a guard of honor.

At the invitation of Lieutenant General (P) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff (HAFGS), Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force (IAF), began an official visit to Greece on June 23, 2025.

Air Chief Marshal Singh received a formal Guard of Honour upon his arrival at the Papagou Military Base in Athens, demonstrating the importance both countries have on their developing strategic alliance.

The visit is a crucial step in strengthening bilateral collaboration, especially in the areas of training and operations. Air Chief Marshal Singh received a thorough briefing on the Hellenic Air Force’s purpose, organizational structure, and operational activities while he was there.

He held high-level talks with Greek military officials about strengthening cooperation and interoperability between the two air services. Recent collaborative military exercises, such as “Iniochos 23,” the upcoming “Iniochos 25,” and the multinational “Tarang Shakti 24,” have greatly improved operational synergy and mutual understanding, and these discussions build on that momentum.

The exchange of commemorative plaques and staff discussions, which further strengthened the friendship and respect between the two air forces, were highlights of the visit. At Dekelia Air Base near Tatoi, Air Chief Marshal Singh is expected to tour the Hellenic Air Force Combat Wings and the Hellenic Air Force Academy, offering chances for increased interaction and information exchange at the operational and training levels.

This high-level interaction comes after India and Greece signed a Defense Cooperation Agreement in 2024, formalizing procedures for cooperative drills, officer exchanges, and information exchange.

Joint training hours have reportedly grown by 15% since the agreement’s implementation, demonstrating real progress in military collaboration.

With tensions surrounding Turkey and shifting alignments in the Eastern Mediterranean, strategic analysts view the bolstering of Indo-Greek defense ties as a proactive response to changing regional dynamics. More and more people view India’s expanding influence as a stabilizing force in the area.

In the future, the collaboration is anticipated to broaden into intelligence exchange, cooperative technology advancement, and air combat system innovation, thereby strengthening regional security and securing India’s position as a major international defense partner.
