US State Department Spokesperson on USA defeating Pakistan in the T20 World Cup: “I often get into trouble.”

At his press briefing on Thursday, US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller fielded a curious question about the major upset in the Cricket World Cup—that being the United States’ victory over Pakistan—and tried to respond as bluntly as possible.

On June 6, during their match in the Super Over of the group stage of the World Cup that the USA is co-hosting, the US team pulled off a stunning shock by defeating Pakistan.

During the otherwise sombre conference, Mathew Miller was asked about the USA vs Pakistan match in a lighthearted moment.

Miller said that the Pakistan cricket squad fits into “that” category and claimed he frequently gets into problems for making remarks on subjects outside of his area of expertise.

The USA cricket team had already received congratulations from the US State Department for their triumph over a formidable opponent.

“The State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs congratulated @usacricket on their victory at the #T20WorldCup against a formidable Pakistani team,” the statement read on X on Friday morning.

The USA tied Pakistan’s score, and the game continued into Super Over.

USA won by five runs in the Super Over after successfully defending the 19-run goal.

The USA has won two of the three games and is presently ranked second in Group A.
