The fifth of the initial batch of six Kalvari-class submarines for the Indian Navy is INS Vagir (S25).

The fifth Kalvari class submarine, INS Vagir (S25), was commissioned by the Indian Navy on Monday in Mumbai. Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Special of Naval Staff, described Vagir as a deadly platform with a potent weapon suite while serving as the ceremony’s chief guest. In addition, it is the third submarine the Navy has received in the previous 24 months.

What Is The Meaning of Vagir?

On November 1, 1973, the former Vagir was put into service and carried out a variety of operational tasks, including patrols for deterrence. The submarine served the country for about three decades before it was decommissioned on January 7, 2001. The submarine, now known as “Vagir,” was launched on November 12, 2020, and has the quickest build time of any locally produced submarine to date.

The word “Vagir,” which the Navy claims means “sand shark,” is an acronym for two qualities that are essential to a submariner’s mindset: stealth and fearlessness. According to the statement, the submarine will increase the Indian Navy’s capacity to defend India’s maritime interests by putting the enemy on the defensive and conducting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) to strike quickly and decisively in an emergency.

What Characteristics Define INS-Vagir?

When INS Vagir (S25) performed her first sea sortie in February 2022, the sea testing officially began. She underwent a number of thorough acceptance examinations and arduous sea testing before being commissioned. The key traits of the Lethal platform also include:

Both close to the coast and in the middle of the ocean, INS Vagir (S25) is capable of being dispatched. It will be equipped to handle all of the needs of the Navy and the country. According to a Navy officer, it is a big step to become Atmanirbhar Bharat.

It was constructed as part of Project-75, which also saw the homegrown construction of six Scorpene-designed submarines. The Indian Navy has already commissioned four submarines from the Kalvari class.

The submarine in its new form holds the distinction of taking the least time to build out of all submarines created domestically to date.

The submarine is equipped to carry out a variety of tasks, including mine laying, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, and surveillance missions.

According to the study, these developments show that China’s presence in Southeast and South Asia is no longer primarily economic but instead entails a larger, more comprehensive effort to strengthen its posture and advance its long-term strategic goals in the area.

“China has lofty aspirations for becoming a regional force in the Indian Ocean. Beijing aims to do this by containing India, the only challenge to China in this region “based on an analyst.
