154 illegal migrants from Bangladesh are deported by Delhi police

The expulsion of 154 illegal Bangladeshi migrants, including 11 families detained on June 6 in the Mahendra Park neighborhood within the authority of the Bharat Nagar police station, was announced by Delhi Police on June 10, 2025. All were identified by authorities as Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in India during interrogation. As part of an ongoing campaign against undocumented foreign residents in the city, the migrants were arrested after being identified and then deported.

This operation is a part of Delhi Police’s larger and continuous effort to find, apprehend, and return illegal migrants, especially in light of the recent terror attacks that have raised security concerns.

Through a concerted effort involving the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and other agencies, officials have deported almost 470 Bangladeshi nationals who were found to be living unlawfully in Delhi in recent months. Usually, special aircraft are used to take the migrants to Tripura, after which they are repatriated by land to the Bangladeshi border.

Multiple police teams and the employment of secret informers to obtain information on illegal migrants, particularly in areas with vulnerable populations, are part of the extensive operation. For example, 88 illegal Bangladeshi migrants were arrested during a 10-day verification effort in South West Delhi; majority of them had Indian identifying documents, including Aadhaar cards. To find the origins of these falsified documents and to identify the people or organizations enabling the unauthorized stay of migrants, police have launched investigations.

Strict adherence to legal regulations is maintained, and the FRRO is crucial in identity verification, travel document preparation, and communication with the Bangladesh High Commission. In order to combat the use of counterfeit passports and dismantle syndicates that encourage illegal immigration, the police have also filed cases under pertinent provisions of the Foreigners Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Citing national security and public safety as their main drivers, Delhi Police authorities have emphasized their commitment to a zero-tolerance stance on illegal immigration. With more drives and investigations anticipated in the upcoming months, the current actions demonstrate a concerted and persistent attempt to address the problem of undocumented foreign nationals in the city.
