Two major encounters are now going place in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur and Kishtwar districts, where security forces are battling suspected militants.
The operation began in Udhampur on April 9 after security officers made contact with three suspected infiltrators during a search operation in Jopher village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ramnagar police station. Ongoing shooting has been reported, and investigators believe two to three terrorists are trapped in the vicinity.
SSP Udhampur, Amod Ashok Nagpure, detailed the operation’s difficult conditions, stating that it is taking place in a “very inaccessible area” characterised by steep mountains, deep woods, and a river below.
He confirmed that all teams are safe and have strong morale as they reply to the continued firing with retaliatory actions. The initial exchange of fire lasted around two hours.
Simultaneously, another confrontation broke out in Kishtwar’s Chatroo district, when forces allegedly surrounded two to three infiltrators in a wooded zone.
This operation comes after a heightened alert in Jammu, where security personnel have aggressively tracked infiltrators since March 24. A prior clash on March 27 resulted in the deaths of two infiltrators and four police officers.
