Indian pilgrims visiting Tibet will soon be able to resume their journey, which has been halted since 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In order to share hydrological data and guarantee water security, both countries decided to strengthen their cooperation in managing trans-border rivers.
Plans to expand trade across the Nathu La pass, which links Tibet in China and Sikkim in India, are part of the accord. It is anticipated that this will improve the two nations’ commercial exchanges.
The agreement was reached during a Beijing meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Along with offering constructive guidelines for cross-border collaboration and exchanges, including as the restoration of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, data sharing on trans-border rivers, and border trade, the SRs also shared their opinions on bilateral, regional, and international topics of shared interest. They also concurred that for regional and international peace and development, India-China ties must be steady, predictable, and cordial.
The two nations have agreed to hold additional special representatives’ meetings in India the following year to carry on their conversations about border cooperation and management. This continuing conversation demonstrates a shared willingness to resolve enduring problems and encourage positive interaction going forward.
Since tensions had surfaced in the Western Sector of the India-China border areas in 2020, this was the first time the SRs had met. The SRs gave a positive affirmation.
