Terrorist Harpreet Singh, also known as Happy Passia, has been taken into custody by the FBI. He is suspected of carrying out several attacks in Punjab, India, and of conducting unlawful operations in the United States. The arrest was verified by FBI Director Kash Patel, who emphasized that justice would be done.
Singh is accused of belonging to a foreign terrorist gang that has ties to two worldwide terrorist organizations, including the Khalistani militant group Babbar Khalsa worldwide (BKI), which is supported by Pakistan.
He is charged with planning grenade assaults on Punjabi police stations, houses of worship, and public leaders’ homes between 2023 and 2025. One of the most prominent attacks was on the home of a former Punjab police officer in Chandigarh in 2024.
Strong international cooperation was demonstrated by the FBI Sacramento field office’s leadership of the investigation, which was closely coordinated with Indian authorities. According to reports, terrorist Singh crossed into the United States illegally from Mexico and used encrypted applications and disposable phones to avoid detection. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI worked together to make his arrest on April 17, 2025.
Gaurav Yadav, the director general of police for Punjab, hailed the arrest as a significant step in breaking up ISI-backed terror networks and emphasized the great cooperation between the United States and India. Singh is also known to be close to another wanted terrorist in Pakistan, Harwinder Singh Sandhu, popularly known as Rinda. Both are regarded as the masterminds of terror operations meant to terrorize Punjab’s police and populace.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India had declared Singh an absconder and offered a reward of 500,000 rupees for information leading to his capture. In March 2025, formal charges were brought against him and other others for the Chandigarh grenade attack. The arrest indicates a strong stance against international terrorism that targets both nations and reflects enhanced Indo-US counterterrorism collaboration under FBI Director Kash Patel’s direction.
The FBI and Indian authorities are collaborating closely to bring violent offenders to justice, and the arrest of Harpreet Singh in Sacramento is a major victory in the war against terrorism associated with Pakistan-backed Khalistani gangs.
