The importance of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck’s hospitality in strengthening the unique relationship between Bhutan and India was recently underlined by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma emphasised during his trip to Bhutan how the cordial welcome from the country’s ruler enhances the two countries’ already strong bonds, which are marked by respect and collaboration.
Sarma’s comments are part of continuous diplomatic initiatives to improve bilateral ties. In keeping with India’s goal to building solid regional connections, the Assam chief minister’s visit is intended to strengthen relations with Bhutan. Such generosity, he said, not only exemplifies Bhutan’s cultural diversity but also the two nations’ long-standing friendship.
This opinion is consistent with previous high-level meetings, such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s March 2024 visit to Bhutan, during which he received the esteemed Order of the Druk Gyalpo from Bhutan. These activities and exchanges demonstrate the closeness of India and Bhutan’s diplomatic and personal ties, strengthening their cooperation in a number of areas.
