According to US Envoy Eric Garcetti, the United States has its own criminal justice system regarding Adani indictment.

At a press conference on January 9, 2025, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti discussed the ongoing legal actions against Gautam Adani and other executives. “No, I don’t have any comment on that,” Garcetti said in response to a question concerning the US indictment pertaining to alleged bribery, underscoring the independence of the US criminal justice system. We have a separate criminal justice system, of course. It differs from many other nations.

Garcetti emphasized the solid alliances between American and Indian businesspeople and expressed optimism for further cooperation in capacity-building initiatives in a number of industries. He emphasized the significance of keeping these connections in spite of Adani’s legal troubles by pointing out that these collaborations have included direct funding for new factories and ports in India.

US lawmakers are worried about the timing of the indictment against Adani and how it might affect US-India relations. Given that the alleged actions took place in India, Congressman Lance Gooden questioned why the Department of Justice was pursuing this case, arguing that it might jeopardize diplomatic relations with a vital ally. Gautam Adani has responded to the accusations by claiming that his company has previously dealt with similar issues and that there have been no infractions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
