The resumption of discussion aiming at resolving each other’s major areas of interest and concern was discussed at a meeting between Chinese and Indian officials in Beijing on March 26, 2025.
Gourangalal Das, India’s Joint Secretary (East Asia), and Liu Jinsong, China’s Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs, presided over the meeting. This conversation is a component of continuous attempts to restore and stabilise bilateral ties, which have been tense recently because of border disputes.
Both sides reviewed the actions since the October 2024 meeting of the Chinese and Indian presidents. They cited two talks between the foreign ministers and the 23rd meeting of special representatives to discuss boundary problems as examples of positive advancements in their relationship.
With plans to resume direct flights, engage with the media, and commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the officials decided to keep pushing people-to-people exchanges.
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a crucial pilgrimage for Indian believers that had been put on hold because of earlier tensions, was one of the major topics. In 2025, the two countries made strides towards resuming this trip. They also talked about improving cross-border collaboration on a number of topics, such as trans-border rivers.
As the conference came to an end, both parties pledged to uphold and bolster military and diplomatic systems in order to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and enable additional interactions this year.
As both nations seek to normalise relations after a period of severe pressure brought on by border clashes since 2020, these actions are viewed as essential to putting relations on a more stable and predictable route.
