The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) briefing highlighted the terrorist attack’s cross-border connections.
This evening, the Prime Minister presided over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). The terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 25 Indians and one Nepali national, was thoroughly explained to the CCS.
There were several others hurt. In addition to expressing its sincere condolences to the victims’ families and wishing for the injured to recover quickly, the CCS strongly condemned the attack.
Numerous governments worldwide have strongly expressed their solidarity and support, and they have categorically denounced this terrorist attack. The CCS expressed gratitude for the sentiments, which show that terrorism will not be tolerated.
The cross-border connections of the terrorist attack were highlighted in the briefing given to the CCS. It was mentioned that this attack followed the Union Territory’s successful elections and consistent advancements in economic development and growth.
With immediate effect, the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty will be suspended until Pakistan firmly and permanently renounces its endorsement of transnational terrorism.
With immediate effect, the Integrated Check Post Attari will be shut down. Before May 1, 2025, those who have crossed over with legitimate endorsements may do so again.
Under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES), Pakistani nationals will not be able to enter India. Any previous SVES visas granted to citizens of Pakistan are considered revoked. Every Pakistani national with an SVES visa in India has 48 hours to depart the country.
Persona Non Grata are the Defense/Military, Naval, and Air Advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. They can depart India in a week. The Indian High Commission in Islamabad will no longer have its own defense, navy, and air advisors. These positions are considered revoked in their respective High Commissions. Additionally, five of the Service Advisors’ support staff will be removed from both High Commissions.
By the first day of May 2025, additional cuts will be made to reduce the current 55 High Commissions’ overall strength to 30.
After reviewing the overall security situation, the CCS instructed all forces to remain vigilant. It decided that the attack’s perpetrators would face consequences and their sponsors would be held accountable. India will continue to pursue those who have committed acts of terror or plotted to enable them, as demonstrated by the recent extradition of Tahawwur Rana.
