‘Forceful But Reasonable’ is how Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada describes his response to tariffs.

According to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, if the United States moves forward with its planned 25% tariffs on Canadian imports, which are scheduled to go into effect on February 1, 2025, Canada is ready to respond with a “forceful but reasonable” response. Although this is not what Canada wants to do, Trudeau stressed that they are prepared to take fast action if needed.

The possible tariffs would hurt not just Canada but also the U.S. economy and jeopardize both countries’ security, Trudeau said in a meeting with the Council on Canada-U.S. Relations.

Citing Canada’s contributions in steel, aluminum, essential minerals, and clean energy, he emphasized that the United States’ long-term success depends on its economic partnership with Canada.

The comments made by Trudeau coincide with continued diplomatic attempts by Canadian ministers in Washington to convince American lawmakers to reevaluate the tariffs. He reaffirmed that Canada will not compromise until the tariffs were lifted and said that all options were open for their response.
