High-level meetings are planned as the top Bhutanese army commander’s visit to India gets underway.

The Royal Bhutan Army’s Chief Operations Officer, Lieutenant General Batoo Tshering, has begun a six-day trip to India, scheduled to run from February 1 to February 6, 2025. The purpose of this tour is to strengthen India-Bhutan military cooperation and investigate potential new defense-related areas of cooperation.

The visit’s main goal is to strengthen military ties, which are essential considering the two countries’ longstanding and strategic alliance.

Although the agenda has not yet been made public, high-level meetings are anticipated to occur during this visit.

Given current regional security dynamics, such as worries over China’s military infrastructure developments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India, this visit is very important. It is believed that deepening relations between India and Bhutan is a calculated step to improve security cooperation and stability in the area.
