Human Rights Activist Rabinder Ghosh said China and Pakistan are responsible for atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.

Prominent Bangladeshi human rights advocate Rabinder Ghosh has openly claimed that China and Pakistan are directly responsible for planning and facilitating crimes against the country’s Hindu minority.

In an in-depth interview, Ghosh asserted that data his organization has received shows China’s complicity and Pakistan’s continuous backing of Bangladeshi Muslims, including documented cases of Pakistani soldiers and troops facilitating anti-Hindu violence.

Ghosh detailed the terrible circumstances facing Hindus in Bangladesh, including rape, gang rape, torture, intimidation, and forced conversions to Islam. He emphasized that the number of Hindus is dropping every day, with many being forced to convert and facing extreme violence. As proof of the ongoing situation, Ghosh pointed to three recent instances of violence and forced conversion that were especially heinous.

Specifically citing the present interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus, who came to office following the overthrow of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in an August 2024 student-led insurrection, he criticized past Bangladeshi governments for neglecting to defend Hindu rights.

Since Yunus took office, there has been a “reign of terror,” according to Ghosh, and 2,336 recorded cases of violence against Hindus have occurred under his administration. Numerous Hindus have been forced to leave their communities as a result of this violence, which has included mass displacement and the burning of Hindu homes.

Despite repeated appeals and thorough descriptions of the situation, Ghosh also expressed extreme dissatisfaction at the international community’s—including the UN’s—lack of response. He pointed out that women and children are particularly at risk of being tortured, raped, and molested, and that his organization has had difficulty feeding and sheltering victims in the absence of official intervention.

The activist compared the current state of affairs to a return of Pakistani influence in Bangladesh after 54 years and cautioned that the country’s independence goals of democracy, secularism, and the rule of law are being threatened. Ghosh ended by regretting that the Hindu minority is alone and in danger because no foreign actors have stepped in to help them.
