The Indian and Nepalese army have partnered to organize the Surya Kiran military exercise, which is scheduled for January 2024. This will be the most recent phase of the continuing partnership to improve the two countries’ military interoperability and operational capabilities.
The drill is planned to take place in Nepal during the first two weeks of January 2024. This comes after the 17th edition, which was held in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, India, from November 24 to December 7, 2023.
India will be represented by a battalion from the Gorkha Rifles in the next exercise. Although specifics about the unit have not yet been made public, the Nepalese contingent will also include a battalion from their army.

Since its start in 2011, Surya Kiran has been held yearly, with India and Nepal taking turns. It provides a forum for both armies to exchange stories, hone fighting techniques, and promote greater understanding between them.
This exercise demonstrates India and Nepal’s close defense ties and their dedication to working together on security initiatives under the auspices of UN peacekeeping missions.
