After their Friday meeting at the White House, the leaders of the United States and India issued a joint statement, which Pakistan criticised for being out of line with diplomatic protocol.

Pakistan’s foreign office issued a statement saying, “It was emphasised that the United States should refrain from making statements that may be read as a support of India’s false and politically motivated narrative against Pakistan.

It was also emphasised that Pakistan and the U.S.’s cooperation in the fight against terrorism had been moving well and that building on this foundation will be essential to furthering Pakistan-U.S. relations.

In a daily news briefing, U.S. State Department spokesman Matt Miller told reporters that Pakistan has made significant strides against terrorist organisations, but that Washington lobbied for more to be done.

“At the same time, however, we have also been consistent on the importance of Pakistan continuing to take steps to permanently dismantle all terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad, and their various front organisations, and we will raise the issue regularly with Pakistani officials,” he said.

LeT, an Islamist organisation, is held accountable for the 2008 Mumbai attacks that claimed more than 160 lives, while Jaish-e-Mohammed took credit for a 2019 explosion in Indian Kashmir that claimed the lives of 40 Indian paramilitary soldiers.
