India’s response follows four assaults against the Sikh community that happened between April and June of 2023. A Sikh community member was shot dead on Saturday after being targeted by unidentified armed individuals, according to Pakistan’s The News International.

Manmohan Singh, who was killed on Saturday in the Kakshal neighbourhood by unidentified gunmen, was the victim. A spokesman for the capital city police claimed on Saturday night that “Manmohan Singh, 34, was travelling home in an auto-rickshaw on Saturday evening when unidentified armed men opened fire on him near Guldara, Kakshal.”

He was rushed to the hospital, but his injuries proved fatal. Senior police officers and investigation teams have reportedly hurried to the scene to gather CCTV footage and other evidence, according to the official. A search effort was also started in the area to find the offenders, according to The News International.

An further Sikh guy was shot and hurt earlier on Friday in the Dabgari neighbourhood of the province capital. According to The News International, the victim, Tarlug Singh, the son of Makhan Singh, was shot in the leg by unidentified armed persons in Dabgari. His condition was no longer in danger when he was transported to the hospital.

Sardar Singh was killed in a drive-by shooting in the eastern city of Lahore in May by gunmen. Singh, 63, was fatally wounded in the head by a gunshot; this is the Sikh community’s third attack. According to Pakistan Today, police officer Asad Abbas claimed that the incident injured the bodyguard. Dayal Singh was shot and killed in Peshawar earlier in April by militants.

The Sikh community, in particular, is feeling unsafe as a result of an increase in targeted killings against them in Pakistan, as the Pakistani government’s failure to safeguard minorities encourages offenders to act with impunity.
