India and the United States Reaffirm Their Commitment to Safe Digital Connectivity and AI Cooperation

During recent talks in New Delhi, India and the US reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening safe digital connectivity and concentrating on artificial intelligence (AI) cooperation. This program is a component of a larger endeavor to fortify the two countries’ strategic technology alliance.

The significance of promoting open, dependable, and interoperable digital infrastructure was emphasized by both nations. Digital talent, cooperation on artificial intelligence (AI), and expanding opportunities for Indian and US information technology, telecommunications, electronics manufacturing, and semiconductor companies in both countries were among the topics discussed by the 2024 ICT Working Group with private sector representatives from both countries. These topics included the promotion of secure and resilient 5G and 6G wireless networks, including through open and interoperable approaches like Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) and quantum communications;

Given its potential to reduce costs, increase flexibility, encourage innovation, and broaden alternatives for reliable ICT suppliers, the US and India are renewing their commitment to increasing the diversity of telecommunications vendors. The goal of this program is to encourage the widespread adoption of Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN), and there are currently talks about starting an Open RAN Academy in India.

A commitment to creating a framework for mutual investments in AI technology was emphasized during the talks. By coordinating safeguards against the spread of AI technology, this framework seeks to guarantee both countries’ development in a secure and reliable manner.

Launched in 2022, the U.S.-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) continues to promote collaboration in a number of fields, such as advanced computing, biotechnology, and cybersecurity. This project seeks to incorporate
