India Is “Closely Monitoring” the Syrian Violent Offensive, South Korean Political Unrest, and LAC Developments: MEA

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is keeping a careful eye on developments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, the political unrest in South Korea, and the growing carnage in Syria.

The recent return of warfare in Syria, where a rebel attack has rekindled the civil war, is of special concern to the MEA. Opposition forces have gained a lot of territory in this offensive, including the seizure of Hama and advances on Homs, which might further isolate President Bashar al-Assad’s government. There are now about 90 Indians in Syria, 14 of them are employed by UN agencies. In order to protect these citizens during this unstable time, the MEA has promised to keep in touch with them. According to the UN, more than 300,000 civilians have perished since

Political unrest has escalated in South Korea since President Yoon Suk Yeol imposed martial law, which was swiftly lifted in response to popular outcry and a unanimous National Assembly decision. Yoon and a number of high-ranking officials are currently facing treason charges and impeachment processes. Given India’s extensive diplomatic and economic connections with South Korea, the MEA has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping a close eye on developments in that nation.

Following recent disengagement agreements, the MEA acknowledged improvements in the situation with China along the LAC. Following a time of increased tension, patrolling operations have resumed, demonstrating both countries’ commitment to preserving peace and stability in the area.
