India’s commitment to preserving its sovereignty in decision-making was recently underlined by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who said that India “can never permit others to have a veto on its choices.” This claim was made in a video message during the December 21, 2024, SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Award event in Mumbai. Jaishankar stated that India will not give in to pressure from outside sources to fit in, and that it will act both for the benefit of the world and its own country.
He went on to discuss the significance of fusing India’s rich history with contemporary technological developments, arguing that India must maintain its cultural identity while expanding its influence in international affairs. His statement, “Bharat will inevitably progress, but it must do so without losing its Bharatiyata,” emphasized the necessity of striking a balance between tradition and modernity.
India is negotiating complicated international ties and establishing itself as a major force in a multipolar world at the time of Jaishankar’s comments. He pointed out that the nation is regaining its tradition and identity, which were previously eclipsed by foreign models of progress. He thinks that this rediscovery is being aided by the emergence of more genuine voices in India as democracy develops.
